Italian Citizenship
1. Citizenship jure sanguinis: direct descent from an Italian citizen is required; documentation proving the descendant and the family tree of descendants is required.
2. Citizenship by birth: can be obtained by those who were born in Italy to foreign parents and had permanent residency until the age of eighteen. The application must be submitted within one year of reaching the age of eighteen.
3. Citizenship by residency: 10 years of residence in Italy is required for non-EU citizens; 4 years of residency in Italy is required for EU citizens;
For descendants of Italian citizens or those born in Italy, 3 years of residency in Italy are required.
4. Citizenship by marriage: those living in Italy must have had to be married to an Italian citizen for at least 2 years, which becomes 3 years if living abroad.
